[EV Writing ep.5] A Person Who Adheres to Discipline Leads an Infinite Life
I have a friend who was a national race cycling athlete for seven years in China. His name is Bryans, and his life revolved around training and resting. His daily schedule was meticulously structured — waking up at 7 AM and dedicating eight hours to training, including muscle strengthening, breathing exercises, and heartbeat monitoring. His sole goal was to become a world champion, a standard aspiration for every athlete.
What I respect most is how athletes like him pursue their dreams relentlessly, day after day, no entertainment, no friendships, and no education. What kept him going through those seven years? I believe the answer is 「national honor」.
However, the career lifespan of an athlete is limited. At 28, he left the national team and joined a cooperative team, taking on a new role — not just as an athlete but as a photographer. Transitioning from a strictly regimented life, he finally had time to explore his passions. He developed his photography skills, initially working on product promotions and model shoots. Over time, he combined his deep understanding of cycling with his growing expertise in photography, earning a professional opportunity to capture racers in motion.
In just three years, he expanded his portfolio, photographing the Australian Outback and the Northern European Aurora. But his transformation didn’t stop there. He ventured into marketing, leveraging his past cycling experience to secure a niche position in the industry — one he had never imagined entering.
From Bryans’ story, I learned the power of faith, self-trust, and unwavering dedication to a single goal, practiced day after day. Perhaps, discipline and time have been his BEST FRIEND. Now, his next challenge is achieving an IELTS 6.0 score for a coming marketing role.
I have no doubt he will overcome this as well — because his faith has shaped an infinite life.
